Baby in Koh Samui - Baby On Holiday

Baby in Koh Samui

By Ceara, mother of Natalia

My partner Scott and I had stayed in Koh Samui pre-baby a few years ago and had such a wonderful time, we decided we would go back again and introduce Natalia, 13 months, to Thailand.

On the flight over it was a bit rough as Natalia was too big for the bassinet. Plus we had to stop off in Bankok for five hours! But we picked a night time flight and she did fall asleep eventually which meant I was able to get some shut eye.

We stayed at a beautiful resort at the northern tip of Chaweng. It was right on the beach and about a 10-minute drive away from the main hustle. We booked a two-bedroom villa so Natalia could have her own room. Her sleep patterns stayed the same; a two hour nap during the day and 12 hours at night. She went to bed a bit later so we were able to go out for dinner and stroll down the famous Chaweng Strip for some late night shopping.

Natalia ate really well. With a buffet breakfast we couldn’t go wrong. Lunch time was usually some fresh tropical fruits and a sandwich, followed by either something from the kids’ menu or a fish dish for dinner. She drank a lot of water and, in the afternoon as a nice treat, had either a freshly cut coconut or a frozen fruit crush to cool off.

Our days were spent swimming, playing in the local playground and napping. Once it had cooled down we would sit by the pool for ‘happy hour’ and to splash about. Natalia loved the beach and we bought a bucket and spade for her to play with. We took advantage of all the family attractions such as the zoo, aquarium, butterfly garden, a water-park and bowling at the local shopping centre. We also went to a few different resorts for lunch and were able to use their pools and facilities.

The locals were so friendly. Every Thai person stopped to talk and play ‘Jut-Ay’ (peek-a-boo) which she soon picked up on and joined in. She loved the attention.

We had such a great holiday that we are already planning to go again next year. Natalia will be that little bit older and will understand everything a lot better. Plus she will be old enough to go on an elephant ride!
